A Journey For Change – Farm To Table Cycle
September 17, 2014
Shearwater is a trip sponsor for Wholesome Wave’s Farm to Table Cycle: A Journey for Change.
Farm to Table Cycle: A Journey for Change is a 16-day, 400-mile solo bicycle and photography journey launched by national non-profit Wholesome Wave to raise awareness about local food systems. Farm to Table Cycle will unveil the many facets of our country’s food system, showcasing the critical building blocks that make up a healthy, thriving food system. It will share with you the story of the countless Americans who work diligently and tirelessly to shape our food system into one that is more equitable, more sustainable and more delicious.
Using stories and photographs captured along the trip, Farm to Table Cycle will deepen understanding and ignite action on issues that touch our food system daily, including food security, farming, food waste, dairy and livestock production, farm-to-table chefs, local food processing and infrastructure, school meals, and institutional food purchasing.
The trip kicks off at McLevy Green in Bridgeport, CT on September 11, 2014, and will come to an end in Portland, ME on Saturday, September 27. Cyclist and world-class photographer Glenn Charles will make nearly three dozen visits to farms, farmers markets, fisheries, schools, food pantries, retail outlets, restaurants, and more as he winds his way north. To see if the cyclist is coming to your area, visit the schedule.
